This co-creation keeps communication in aviation and offshore online
Routing a vast amount of analogue and IP audio connections
Operations in aviation and shipping are two examples of applications that heavily rely on stable and secure audio communication around the clock. Operators, planners and traffic controllers are all examples of professions that use audio communication to perform their tasks in some form.
Companies like MEP deliver the automation hardware and operating software to make this vital link possible in large scale 24/7 applications. One of their products is an advanced hybrid voice switch, capable of routing a vast amount of analogue and IP audio connections in a secure and stable way. Solutions like these, combined with over twenty years of experience in voice communication systems for critical applications, make MEP a key player for daily operations in international transport hubs such as airfields, harbors, and train stations.
Industrial yet scalable
MEP partnered with Batenburg Applied Technologies for the realization of this switch. Their inquiry focused on the build of an industrial grade, yet scalable product, where the amount of network add-on cards is easily adaptable. This makes the product suitable in upscaling scenarios without losing focus on the high standards.
Easy-to-adopt hardware
After a thorough evaluation of the electrical and mechanical requirements, engineers of our Automation Hardware Services selected a barebone enclosure from our partner ELMA, which we upgraded with custom font panels. Using the standardized rackmount body makes it an easy-to-adopt product for global deployment.

Hardware production in small series
For the entire unit, Batenburg Applied Technologies acts as an on-demand co-creation partner for MEP, able to deliver small series within an agreed schedule. This duo-role, as consulting partner and assembler, makes us responsible for the inventory management of required materials, the in-house manufacturing and printing of the custom aluminum front panels, and the assembly of a complete and saleable product.
All these steps allow us to combine multiple areas of expertise as an organization: from design-in advice and hardware sourcing, to in-house customization of metal parts, and the final assembly in a controlled ESD environment. The resulting product is advanced automation hardware that meets the highest standards set by MEP and its customers.
For Werner van Eck, Managing Director at MEP, open communication and shared commitment to solving challenges together form the foundation of a successful partnership. "We are very satisfied with the open communication and the willingness to always find solutions together whenever issues arise ," according to Van Eck.
